We relocated our library to a central location in school. It was a complete transformation of an old learning / computer room into an inspirational and exciting library. Our new library is more than we could have hoped for and has been so well received by our children. They love spending time in our quiet, fresh space. It has really helped to raise the importance of reading for pleasure.

When I arrived in Penrith, I was greeted by the beautiful countryside of Cumbria. The head Emma met me at reception ready to show me the new location for the library. The school has an existing room designated for the library books but was being used for storage space as well. Emma explained how she wanted to encourage the love of reading in school by creating a beautiful library in the heart of the school. She showed me the location she had in mind, the room was previously used for computers and explained needed a complete transformation.
THE BRIEF - 'Design a space children will want to explore'
Emma's enthusiasm to revamp the room for the children's enjoyment and reading pleasure was there to see. As we brainstormed various concepts and themes, the idea of a woodland library design stood out as a perfect fit with us being in Cumbria. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the area, the forest theme not only resonated with the surroundings but also offered a sense of adventure and exploration for the young readers. We took into consideration of how to make the most of the limited space available. It was key to find the perfect balance between maximising the space for books and activities while ensuring that the environment remained inviting and engaging for the children.
THE DESIGN - 'A place for children to feel inspired to read'
Challenges inevitably arose during the design phase, as every room presents its unique set of obstacles and considerations. Taking into account the challenges, the design we created was a captivating forest-themed library that would undoubtedly spark the children's imagination and love for reading.
We crafted a small reading nook that seamlessly integrated with the shelving along one of the walls. The nook served as a focal point, greeting visitors with its inviting presence and offering a cosy space for children to delve into the world of books. Featuring a beautifully shaped arched doorway for an enchanting entrance, and strategically placed windows within the shelving, the nook allowed for a whimsical peek-a-boo effect, adding an element of surprise and delight. This carefully designed space beckoned children to explore, discover new books, and immerse themselves in the joy of reading.
Enhancing the ambiance further, we decorated the back wall and the interior of the reading nook with a stunning woodland wallpaper. This intricate design not only added a touch of natural beauty but also transformed the entire room into a magical forest setting. The wallpaper's intricate details and vibrant colours brought the theme to life, creating a truly enchanting and immersive environment that inspired wonder and curiosity in young readers.
Nothing was too much trouble for Josh and his team. They guided us through the whole process seamlessly and kept in touch with the other contracts so that everything was done on time. I was very impressed with the communication and attention to detail during the installation. I can't praise Josh and his team highly enough, thank you.

THE LIBRARY - 'A magical woodland haven'
Being invited to be a part of this project was wonderful. It was not just about transforming a room; it was about creating a space that will serve as a cornerstone of education for the children of the school for years to come. It will inspire children to read and fall in love with stories, creating a better future for the next generation.
Everyone who sees our new library simply says, "Wow!". We've had authors, poets, parents, actors, Ofsted and SIAMs all comment on it. I love showing visitors round school and our new library makes it even more special.
